Our subject for our Documentary is ‘Unhealthy Obsessions’ and obsessive behaviour. During this we will be attempting to understand what they are and why people have them. To do this we plan on getting interviews with professionals, like teachers, doctors and other companies that deal with people with these problems, followed up by people with these obsessions and backed up with the new information that we’ve learnt to draw a conclusion. We will use them all as examples of unhealthy and obsessive behaviour.
The style of our documentary will be Interactive/Reflexive and will draw upon influences from Louis Theroux type documentaries. This is because we are planning on having a presenter and also we want to show that we aren’t hiding the fact that we are making a documentary. The tendency of the documentary is ‘To analyse and or interrogate’. This is because we aim to talk to professionals and people who suffer from obsessions and learn what they are and why they become a thing.
Beginning- Firstly, it will start with the information that we have researched, to give context and also to give the audience some idea what we are studying and analysing. We will then show the planned interview with the doctor/nurse from the Diana, Princess of Wales Hospital specialising in the effects and problems that can affect the brain. This will give us some crucial information on the subject, of which we can replicate throughout the documentary. After this we plan to have a person who has an unhealthy obsession and shows lots of signs of extremely obsessive behaviour. We have managed to find someone who obsesses over the popular pop band ‘One Direction’ to which they have agreed to do an interview and will let us explore their obsession.
Middle- In the middle meanwhile, We have planned to have a psychology teacher from our college explain, much like the doctor, about the obsessions and what it can do to you as a person and what it does to your brains. Following this we will get some interviews with some car enthusiasts who spend a lot of money on some items for their cars and how that has developed into an obsession rather than a hobby.
End- For the last part of the documentary, we have been able to secure an interview from an employee at Open Minds. A company that specialises in helping those with a mental problem, be it obsessive behaviour, depression and OCD etc.. I feel that we would need to end on a serious note, to get our point across and solidify the message and information about Obsessive Behaviour and Unhealthy Behaviour.
Legal and Ethical Problems;
We can run to some Legal problems if we plan on filming some scenes at the Hospital, as it is a public place we’d need to notify people in the area that we are filming and whether or not they would be liked to be filmed. We would need to get several release forms for this matter. Also accuracy is a problem, because we are using statistic and information based on actual health problems, if it were to be false it would be seen as unethical.
